Pink Cycling Jerseys for October Rides: Wear Pink, Ride Together

Start with our Pedal in Pink collection for women's designs and our Pink Cycling Jerseys collection for men's, women's and kids' cuts. Between them you get soft pastels, hot pinks and neon, in short and long sleeve. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the US, and searches for pink cycling jerseys have climbed over the past year.

In short

  • Pedal in Pink holds our women's pink designs. Pink Cycling Jerseys adds men's and kids' cuts.
  • Pink comes in four looks: pastel, hot pink, neon and pink inside a print.
  • Black bib shorts go with every pink. Pink or white socks finish the look.
  • October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the US. The Giro d'Italia leader has worn pink since 1931.

Where can I buy pink cycling jerseys?

Two collections cover most of it. Pedal in Pink is our women's edit: florals, polka dots, retro stripes, unicorns, a bride jersey and the Faith Hope Love design in the photos on this page. Pink Cycling Jerseys is wider, with men's and kids' designs next to the women's ones, from pastel retro team looks to high viz triangles.

If you only want a touch of pink, browse all our women's cycling jerseys and look for it inside the prints.

Take the Faith Hope Love jersey as an example of what you get: 140 GSM moisture-wicking polyester, 110 GSM mesh side panels, three back pockets, a full-length hidden zip and a silicone waist gripper. It is made to order in sizes XXS-7XL. Our jerseys have a club fit cut and run small, so size up if you are between sizes and check the size chart against your own measurements first.

Why do cyclists wear pink in October?

October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month in the US, a yearly campaign to raise awareness of the most common cancer among women. Some riders mark it the simplest way a cyclist can, by turning up to the Saturday ride in pink. The Faith Hope Love jersey has the word Hope across the chest with a pink ribbon, and it comes in short and long sleeve.

Pink also has a racing meaning that is much older. Since 1931 the leader of the Giro d'Italia has worn the maglia rosa, a pink jersey, because the newspaper that ran the race, La Gazzetta dello Sport, was printed on pink paper. In Italy, pink has meant "race leader" for more than 90 years. Our Men's 100 Giro d'Italia jersey is a soft pink nod to that history.

Which shade of pink should you choose?

Four kinds of pink jersey and what to wear with each Four rows. Pastel pink is soft with a retro feel and pairs with black, white or navy. Hot pink is bold and pairs with black or white. Neon pink is the brightest in daylight and pairs best with plain black. Pink in a print, such as florals, flamingos or polka dots, pairs with black bibs and socks that pick up one shade from the print. Pick a pink, then match it Pairs well with Pastel pink Soft, with a retro feel Hot pink Bold, the classic October look Neon pink The brightest of the four in daylight Pink in a print Florals, flamingos, polka dots black, white, navy black, white plain black black, one print shade

Pink covers a lot of ground, and the shade changes how the whole kit reads.

Pastel pink feels soft and retro. Picture the pale pink of old team jerseys, like our Men's Retro Ferrys 1960's design. It is the easiest pink to wear and sits well with black, white or navy.

Hot pink is the bold, saturated shade of the Faith Hope Love jersey. A group in hot pink looks great in photos, and it still pops on gray fall mornings.

Neon pink is the loudest of the four. If being seen by drivers is the main point, a neon or high viz design does the most work in daylight. Keep lights on the bike and reflective details on your kit for dusk, because no fabric color replaces them.

Pink in a print suits riders who like pink but not head to toe: florals on a dark base, flamingos, polka dots or candy stripes. My guess is this is where most first-time pink buyers end up.

What do you wear with a pink cycling jersey?

Black bib shorts. They go with every shade of pink and hide road grime, so the jersey gets all the attention. For more pink, our Women's Plain Gel Padded Cycling Bib comes in pink as well as lime, green, orange and yellow, and it looks best under a plain or lightly printed pink top.

A few other pairings that work:

  • Socks that repeat the jersey: pink with pastel or hot pink, white with a busy print.
  • One small matching detail, such as gloves, bar tape or sunglasses frames, instead of everything at once.
  • On cold fall mornings, a pink long sleeve jersey over a base layer keeps the color on show with no jacket hiding it.
  • Navy shorts with pastel pink, if black feels too plain.

Do men wear pink cycling jerseys?

Pink holds its own next to any other jersey on a fall ride.

Yes, and every Giro d'Italia leader since 1931 has proved it. Men's pink designs in our store run from pastel retro team looks and the Giro tribute to a flamingo print and high viz funky triangles with plenty of pink in them.

A pink jersey fits into a man's usual kit just as easily. Pastel pink over black bibs looks as classic as any team kit, and a flamingo print is a good conversation starter at the café.

Cut is not a barrier either. Through the customization panel on the product page you can request a design in a different gender cut, so a mixed group can all ride in the same women's design, or the same men's one. Customized orders are final, so check the size chart before you choose.

How do you plan a group ride where everyone wears pink?

One shade makes the group easy to spot.
  1. Choose one design or one shade. A single design looks sharp in the group photo, while "anything pink" is easier for everyone.
  2. Collect sizes before anyone orders, measured against the size chart rather than the label people usually wear.
  3. Settle the cuts. Anyone who wants the same design in another gender cut asks for it in the customization panel.
  4. Order early. Every jersey is made to order, so do not leave it to the week of the ride.
  5. Plan a route with a café stop, so there is a good place for the photo.

On the day, ride at the pace of the slowest rider so the group stays together, which also keeps a block of pink easy for drivers to see. If the group includes newer riders, a flat loop with one café stop beats a hilly route that splits everyone up. Take the group photo early, while the kit is still clean.

A shared order can clear free shipping on orders over $125, and if a size is wrong, non-customized items come with 60-day store-credit returns. Our returns policy has the details.

Frequently asked questions

Are pink cycling jerseys only for October?

No. Plenty of riders wear pink all year, for the Giro d'Italia in May, on summer rides or simply because they like it. October just brings more of them out at once.

What color shorts go with a pink cycling jersey?

Black goes with every shade. Navy works with pastel pink, and a pink bib suits a plain pink jersey.

Are pink cycling jerseys good for visibility?

Bright and neon pinks stand out well in daylight. At dusk and after dark, lights and reflective details matter far more than jersey color.

Do you have pink cycling jerseys for men?

Yes. The Pink Cycling Jerseys collection has men's designs, including pastel retro looks, a Giro d'Italia tribute and high viz prints.

Can I order a women's pink design in a men's cut?

Yes. Ask for a different gender cut in the customization panel on the product page. Customized orders are final, so check your size first.

What does the pink jersey mean in pro cycling?

It is the maglia rosa, worn by the overall leader of the Giro d'Italia since 1931. The color comes from the pink paper of La Gazzetta dello Sport.
